Elise Pickett, our gardening teacher, is passionate about helping families and children grow their own food in a way that’s simple, sustainable, and joyful—especially here in Florida’s one-of-a-kind climate. With over 20 years of hands-on gardening experience, a background in sustainable food systems, and a commitment to education, Elise created The Urban Harvest to inspire the next generation of growers through fun, practical learning.

For the past five years, Elise has had the pleasure of teaching garden classes in a school setting, where she witnessed incredible transformations—kids who once avoided vegetables or hesitated to get messy are now proudly tasting what they’ve grown and digging right in. Elise also shares resources and seasonal guidance through online classes, local workshops, and her cookbook Rooted in Sunshine, which celebrates Florida-friendly heirloom recipes and homegrown produce. When she’s not in the garden or at school, Elise loves to travel the world, cook good food, and spend time with family and friends. Elise also loves being on the water – exploring marine biology, boating, visiting the beach, fishing, or tubing down a river.
